The following in information about some of our activities for 2008:

 

December 25, 2008 - Tony finally finished the 2 doll cradles he was making for his granddaughter’s American Girl dolls:

12/14/08 - #1: Sam Gualtieri, Uncle Giuseppe Gualtieri's son, visited friends and relatives in Chicago. While there he entered a silent auction and won a trip to Paris. #2: Danial Gualtieri, my son, was selected by his company to sponsor and mentor a high school regional Robotics completion where the kids will build a robot and enter it into a tournament. #3: Vivian and I completed our Advanced Square Dance lessons and attended our graduation dance. (For those who don't know, we dance this level about 12 years ago but stopped dancing. In January we decided to start again and since then have completed Mainstream Lessons, Plus Lessons, Plus DBD Lessons and now Advanced Lessons. We hope to start Challenge 1 Lessons next year.)
 

09/22/08 - I received a nice email from Nunizo Milito. He said that there have been a lot of fires around Rovito this summer. While helping fight one of them he got bit buy big beautiful bug, perhaps a hornet, even though he was wearing anti-fire coveralls. As a result he was in the hospital for a couple of day with a very swollen arm. All is OK now. In addition, he told me that his brother Luigi (Gigetto) and his wife, Nunzia, had a beautiful baby girl, Julia (Giulia). They also had a party last week at a restaurant in Cosenza to celebrate Annamaria's christening. Annamaria is Nunizo's sister Elfida and brother-in-law Antonello's daughter.
Also, Rolando Simona Sara and Ilaria Stevanella spent two weeks in Liguria at the sea, and ten days near Austria's border in mountains in the beginning of September.
 

09/05/08 - Vivian and I spent the weekend in Paris at a Square Dance weekend and had a great time. Oh, Paris, Texas that is!
 

08/21/08 - Well, I have had a busy few weeks. First Danial Gualtieri bid on a wine dinner for a group of people at a silent auction to help the homeless and won. He invited Vivian and me to join them along with a few co-workers. We had a very nice time and went through a lot of wine. The following week, Vivian and I spent the week in San Antonio. I always enjoy seeing the Alamo and the River Walk. Seeing the movie about the Alamo, Texas Republic and how Texas became a state is always interesting also. Then Saturday Danial and Shelley had a birthday party for Autum and Arron. We also managed to go to a few square dances.
 

07/29/08 - #1 Daniele Lyons and her kids are in Rovito on a summer trip.
#2 - Tony and Vivian Gualtieri spent the weekend in Salado, Texas on a Square Dance weekend; they danced 4 dances, over 9 hours. They had a very good time with friends and shopping (Salado is a old arts/crafts town).
#3 - Lisa Gualtieri, Sam Gualtieri’s daughter and Giuseppe Gualtieri’s grandaughter, sent Tony 1 inch stack of copies of Rovito civil records, which she got from the microfilms in Salt Lake City. Now Tony has a lot of analyzing to do and hopefully a lot of updates to make to our website.

 

July 29, 2008 - Ross Logan, Leysa Logan’s son and Mario’s grandson, when to Italy in May on a Monmouth College Business Class trip. He had a great time in Italy and cannot wait to go back. The picture is Ross and his friend Lauren riding a gondola in Venice, Italy on one of their free days.

07/24/08 - #1. Four of Don Gualtieri's girls, Amanada, Krystal, Lori and Tiffany visited their grandfather, Louie Gualtieri and their Uncle Sammy in Las Vegas over the weekend. #2. Tony Gualtieri has been picking about 24-36 figs every 2-3 days from his new fig tree.
 

06/23/08 - Daniela Guatieri Lyons said: "I have been to Turin, Italy for a week at the end of May with the children and I saw everybody apart from Franco who was in Sardinia. I did see Iole, his wife, who was there for a few days visiting her children. Mamma, Zia Maria, is keeping well and so is everyone else. The weather, unusually, was incredibly bad. It rained almost every day and it rained so much that they had to close some of the bridges in Turin; well it was pretty bad! Here is a picture of Alexander show the turbulence of the water behind him.

06/21/08 - Mario Gualtieri sent me the following about the recent floods on the Mississippi. The water started to go down Tuesday (6/17/09) and now Wednesday the water is up again, because the Golfport, IL Levy broke. And here it is Thursday and it is up a little more. These pictures are just south of Mario's house.

04/28/08: #1 From Ron Heuer: "Today Gina and I went to Niagara Falls and Buffalo.  We took a couple of pictures at the falls, see attached, went to Buffalo and had wings at the famous "Anchor Bar" where wings were first prepared in 1964.  Wings were the best ever!  Had a nice day, 1.5-hour drive from Toronto, which made it easy."

#3 - Alexis Demkos, Destina Gualtieri Demkos daughter, scratch art Self-Portrait was selected by her school for the Fine Art's Festival. See the picture in the Photos Page.

 

#4 - March 28 - April 5,2008 Gina and Ron took Gina's children Heather and Ryan, their significant others and the grandchildren to Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando. See Photo in Mario Gualtieri’s sub-album in the Antonio (Tony) Gualtieri & Clorinda Cicero’s Family Album.

 

#5 - Oliver Lyons, Daniela Guatieri Lyons’s son, dressed up like Oliver Twist for school assignment, he come dressed up like a book character. See photo in Daniela’s sub-album in the Damiano Guatieri and Maria Donoto’s Family Album.

 

04/16/08: Well, believe it or not, I finally finished the vegetable garden. It is now ready for planting; it only took me 3 years. But I could not have "Villa Cosenza Sul Lago" with a vegetable garden. There are 4 raised beds, each 4 feet by 8 feet with a 2-foot walkway between them.

Things are different in Texas; I got a vegetable garden soil mix from a very good supplier. However, it is not look like any soil I had ever seen. It seems like everything I knew about vegetable gardens in Illinois is useless down here. It was also interesting, because while I was shoveling the dirt from the driveway to the wheelbarrow I could hear my brother Mario telling me with each shovel: "Fill up the back of the shovel, the front will take care of itself!" just like he use to when I was younger. Now I have to get the plants in.

03/08/08 - #1: My Dad’s (Tony) and my uncle’s first cousin, Frank Sprovieri, lived in Arizona died in February. He was Gloria Sprovieri Cicero's Mother's brother.

#3: - Vivian and I had a trip to San Francisco in February. It rained almost every day but we still had fun. No, I did not take my camera.
 

 

02/18/08 - Exciting news: Amanda Gualtieri, Louie's granddaughter and Don Gualtieri's daughter, got engaged on February 12th! She is marring Steven Alandt from Arizona in March of 2009.

 

02/15/08 - First Tony and Vivian had a surprise visit from Ken Blackman Wednesday and had a wonderful visit. Second, Louie is going to Italy to visit Teresa next week for 1-2 months. Tami will be going in a couple of weeks so Teresa should be busy. Third, Vivian and Tony are going to celebrate their 43rd Anniversary in San Francisco for a long weekend next week.
 

02/02/08 - Tony & Vivian have decided to get back into Square Dancing and have started taking Basic, Mainstream and Basic lessons again.
 

01/10/08 - Alexis Demko’s art work was selected to represent her school in the Tomball Independent School district. If she places, she will represent her school at a regional completion.
